With my OSAT II class we went winter camping on a wetlands near Onion lake, about 45 min from Thunder Bay. Because of the class size it had beensplit into 4 groups, accross 2 weekends. For the sake of a story - the first weekend's groups were not as well prepared as they thought when the temprature dropped to -30 with -45 wind chill and most chose to leave during the night and so packed up, and walked out through the blizard.
My camp - the week before it had been rather "warm" (-10 to -2 ish day time temp's) and there had been lots of snow loss. how ever - the friday we set out it puked down and my entire group (Bar my fello Australian Ryan Todd) made Quinzies (big hollowed out piles of snow) the satursay was stunning and our river walk and fire lighting was a huge sucess, and sunday the rain held back untill we were all safe at home.
Winter Canping is something that i cant wait to have another go at!
